    a funny dredg story

    posted by Zach Barrett

I have been a Dredg fan for a really long time and I was super stoked about the Philly show at the Theatre of Living Arts. Two of my friend and my wife drove four hours from Virginia just to see the show.

About two blocks from TLA we found promising looking one level parking “garage“. As we were turning into the garage I noticed a tour bus with a few people standing outside right past the entrance. I turned to my friend and asked “was that Gavin standing next to that tour bus?” My friends agreed that it looked like him. After we figured out how to enter the garage, those spikes looked pretty menacing. I started talking about if it would be cool/respectful if I just walked up to him and tell him about how a huge fan I am and all that other brown nosing stuff that you say when you meet someone like that. About half way down the ramp I saw them in the mirror walking by. I yelled to my friend “Stop the Car!” I then opened my passenger side door leaned out the car and exalted “HEY DREDG!” They jumped and looked over at me startled and surprised. The only thing I could think of saying was “WHAT’S UP!” as I waved. Gavin acknowledged me with a head nod and they continued walking. I was so embarrassed of my fan boy outburst, I quickly shut the door as my friends started to poke fun at me.

We parked the car and started walking towards South Street. As we rounded the corner I looked across the street over at Jon’s Bar & Grill and saw them sitting outside getting ready to have dinner. As I looked I noticed they were all staring at me and I just knew they were thinking “please don’t let this crazy guy come over here and crash our dinner.” I looked away as if I never saw them sitting there and continued walking towards TLA. We entered the theatre and decided to go upstairs and watch the show from there. Because upstairs had a bar we had to show our ID which my wife somehow left in the car. I was picked to be the one to walk back to retrieve it. I quickly headed back to the car, knowing I would have to walk by there twice more. Both times I walked by they were looking at me and both times I pretended I didn’t see them. I didn’t want to be that crazy stalker type fan.

The show was amazing! Dredg sounded perfect and we had front row upstairs, sitting on bar stools. The next time they come around my area I will try not to weird them out again with my star struck tennie-bopper actions.

Actually, I talked to them after their concert in London 2 days ago - I couldn't say anything better than your WHATS UP!

This story gave me a good chuckle. I Probably would not have the balls to yell out at them. It's cool that you did, even though you felt embarrassed. Maybe they do remember it haha
